If you’re a Harry Potter fan, you know that J.K. Rowling just loves to drop bombshells on us from time to time. And y’all, she’s at it again.
In her latest post on Pottermore, Rowling made a pretty surprising reveal: There are actually TWO Harry Potters in her ~magical wizarding world~. That’s right. TWO OF THEM.
Of course, there’s the Harry Potter we know and love — this lightning-scarred dude:
But as it turns out, he’s not technically the first Harry Potter! Our beloved boy wizard is actually the descendant of another Harry Potter, who lived in the early 1900s.
And the original H.P. (whose real name was Henry but who went by Harry with “his intimates”) was also pretty badass. Rowling writes:
Henry caused a minor stir when he publicly condemned then Minister for Magic, Archer Evermonde, who had forbidden the magical community to help Muggles waging the First World War. His outspokenness on the behalf of the Muggle community was also a strong contributing factor in the family’s exclusion from the ‘Sacred Twenty-Eight’.
BTW, the ‘Sacred Twenty-Eight’ was a list of 28 wizard families who were considered “pure-blood.” So the Potters were kept off that list for fighting for #mugglesrights. Way to be on the right side of completely made-up history, Potter fam.
So, basically, present-day Harry Potter should really be known as Harry Potter II. Or Harry Potter Jr. Or maybe Lil’ Harry.
Look, I know that none of this is real and I’m basically reporting on the random musings of some British lady in her mansion. But still, IT’S COOL!!!
… And if she really wants to make me happy, next she’ll tell us that there are two Cedric Diggorys.
