Is Rachel Roy “Becky with the good hair”?
Beyonce fans seem convinced that Jay Z cheated on the superstar with fashion designer Rachel Roy and they are not happy about it.
In her latest album, Lemonade, many of Beyonce’s lyrics seem to deal with the theme of adultery. One song features Beyonce alluding to a cheating partner and includes the lyrics: “He better call Becky with the good hair.”
Roy took to her Instagram just hours after HBO aired a video accompaniment to the album and posted an image with the caption: “Good hair don’t care, but we will take good lighting, for selfies, or self truths, always.”
As the ex-wife of music producer Damon Dash, Jay Z’s former business partner, Roy had reportedly grown close to the rapper over the years. Some have even speculated that, when Solange Knowles attacked Jay Z in an elevator a couple years back, Solange was angry about Jay Z and Roy’s relationship.
“Solange was defending Beyoncé in the elevator because Solange finds Jay’s friendship with Rachel to be WAY too close for comfort and it makes Solange very uncomfortable,” a source told Hollywood Life at the time. “Beyoncé also confronted Rachel and said, ‘Don’t talk to my sister like that,’ after [Rachel] confronted Solange.”
When fans made the connection between the offending lyric and Roy, they assaulted her Instagram with hostile messages. “I think we found ‘Becky!’” one fan posted, while another encouraged Roy to “delete ur account before the hive deletes ur miserable side h* self.”
Roy quickly made her Instagram account private and took to Twitter to defend herself against the onslaught. “I respect love, marriages, families and strength. What shouldn’t be tolerated by anyone, no matter what, is bullying, of any kind,” she tweeted.
But the Beyhive still isn’t buying it. One Twitter response to Roy said, “if you knew what respect was you wouldn’t be sleeping with men who are married but ok becky.” Many others expressed similar sentiments.
